It is not uncommon for followers of Jesus to harbor a bit of envy toward His first followers of some 2000 years ago, followers who heard His teachings with their own ears, witnessed His miracles with their own eyes, and could testify of His resurrection from having walked with His resurrected body. Yet Jesus tells us in today's passage that we, His followers, are not orphans, that there is no reason to be troubled by His bodily absence, for He has given to every believer the Holy Spirit, who will give us supernatural peace and lead us into all truth.
